David Whitman is an avid gardener and has been concerned over the years that there were fewer and fewer honeybees.  Before he retired in 2021, he acquired a single hive for pollination.  This was the beginning of Lake Martin Honey which now consists of over 40 hives. He is very passionate about the sustainability of the honeybee and committed to raising healthy bees.

Lake Martin Honey produces about 1,500 pounds of honey annually.  In addition to honey production, he sells queens, colonies of bees and beeswax products.

David is a member of the Tallapoosa River Beekeepers Association and currently serves as President.  He sells his honey at farmers markets and local grocery stores.  In an effort to help sustain beekeeping, he mentors beginning beekeepers to help teach them techniques to be successful beekeepers.
