Getting Ready for Spring

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Been working for a couple of weeks now to get equipment ready for the nectar flow. Last year we ran out of equipment (honey supers) that are used to gather honey. We had about 20 which was about 1-2 per hive. Just completed building 25 more honey supers so we will have approximately 2-3 per hive. Each honey super has 10 frames so in addition to building boxes, had to assemble 250 frames to go in the boxes. Each piece of foundation that goes into the frames are painted with melted bees wax to increase the attraction of the bees to the foundation. Below are pics showing how we start with rough cut lumber, plane it the proper thickness, cut, assemble, paint and get them ready to go on the hives.
